Michael Wong Sings in Shanghainese
Adjust font size:

Malaysian singer Michael Wong, or Guang Liang, was the latest in a long line of star musicians to heat up Shanghai.

His show, held on Saturday night at the Shanghai Grand Stage, was reportedly Wong's first solo concert on the Chinese mainland. His parents flew in to Shanghai from Malaysia to celebrate the special occasion, according to local website xmnext.com.

The Mandarin-speaking singer also performed a Shanghainese version of his hit "Fairytale" (Tong Hua). Its funny lyrics turned the venue into a house of laughter.

Yet more singers are set to follow in Wong's steps to sing in Shanghai in the coming months. Among them are Taiwan pop-rock band Mayday, whose show is scheduled for October 20; Jay Chou on November 24 and Jacky Cheung on December 1.

Malaysian singer Michael Wong performs at the Shanghai Grand Stage on Saturday, September 1, 2007.
