Cooperating with the Edmonton Public School Board, the institute is dedicated to the promotion of Chinese language learning in primary and secondary schools, providing teacher training and a Chinese Proficiency Test. The most prominent success of the institute is that it has submitted a reform proposal to the local department of education and changed the characters of teaching from the traditional Chinese ones to the simplified Chinese versions. It has 14 Confucius classrooms so far. It also created a reading room with a collection of more than 40,000 copies, in order to make more people get a deeper understanding of China.

On the basis of providing comprehensive courses including language programs, teachers’ education and educational travel, the Institute created its particular characteristics. It cooperated with the Kobe Bryant Foundation, offering Chinese language and Chinese martial arts courses in 5 middle schools, which are highly popular and make it one of the most distinctive Confucius Institutes. Furthermore, it is known for its wide array of events, including the Los Angeles International Martial Arts Competition and the Chinese National Music Instrumental Concert.
