The Australian Department of Defense has ordered 10 C-27J Spartan tactical transports from Alenia Aermacchi, an Italian aerospace company, in May 2012. The deal is worth more than AUD1.4 billion (US$1.46 billion). The company is to provide the capability to operate, maintain, modify and upgrade in-country the C-27J aircraft as well as its support systems on the long term. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2015.
