Chinese President Hu Jintao on Friday exchanged congratulatory messages with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko on the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

China-Belarus relations have been developing soundly and steadily since diplomatic ties were established 20 years ago, marked by growing mutual political trust, fruitful cooperation in economy and trade, finance, science and military technology, and increasing people-to-people exchanges, Hu said in his message.

The two countries have maintained close communication and coordination in international and regional affairs and the content of bilateral cooperation has been constantly enriched, Hu said, adding that all these have brought tangible benefits to both countries and peoples.

China is ready to work with Belarus to further raise the level of cooperation and advance mutually beneficial cooperation in an all-round way, he said.

Belarus always sees developing relations with China as a foreign policy priority, Lukashenko said in his message. There have been frequent exchanges of top-level visits and bilateral cooperation in such areas as economy and trade, culture, technology and education is expanding constantly.

The two countries have maintained a common position on major international issues and had fruitful cooperation in international organizations, Lukashenko said.

He expressed Belarus' readiness to work with China to bring their relations to a higher level.

On the same day, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi also exchanged messages with his Belarusian counterpart Sergei Martynov.
