1, German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder arrives in Beijing for a four-day official visit to China at the invitation of Premier Wen Jiabao.

1, Premier Wen Jiabao visits AIDS patients in Beijing's Ditan Hospital. Wearing a red ribbon, the premier shook hands and had conversations with three AIDS patients hospitalized there.

3, The Information Office of the State Council issues China's Non-Proliferation Policy and Measures white paper, reiterating China's opposition to the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery. This is the Chinese Government's first white paper on the issue of proliferation.

7-16, Premier Wen Jiabao makes an official visit to the United States, Canada, Mexico and Ethiopia and attends the opening ceremony of the Second Ministerial Conference of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This is the premier's first bilateral overseas trip since he assumed office in March 2003.

10, President of the 58th UN General Assembly, Julian Hunte, confers the UN Prize in the Field of Human Rights to Deng Pufang, President of the China Disabled Persons' Federation, at the UN headquarters in New York. This is in recognition of Deng's great efforts in and outstanding contribution to improving the living standard of the disabled in China and other countries over the past years. Deng is the first Chinese to win this prize.
