Senior Chinese leader Li Ruihuan Saturday offered congratulations to Bainqen Erdini Qoigyijabu, the 11th Panchen Lama, on his 12th birthday at a meeting between the two in Beijing just before the traditional Chinese Lunar New Year and the Tibetan New Year, known as the Year of the Iron Snake by the Tibetan calendar.
China to Establish State Scholarship
China will establish a state scholarship system to help undergraduates and graduate students from low-income families, according to the Sunday edition of Beijing Youth Daily.
China Helps World in Olympic Effort Against Doping in Sports

Palestinian National Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat, in an interview with Xinhua News Agency late on Wednesday night, thanked China for its persistent and extensive support for the Palestinian people and the Palestinian cause. Arafat said that he was ready to conduct peace talks with Israel, but was skeptical that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has real intentions to seek peace with the Palestinians.
