Terracotta warriors and horses in color

The terracotta warriors and horses in color were unearthed from the mausoleum of the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty in Xi'an, Shaanxi province, and are now exhibited at the Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum. The surface of the terracotta warriors and horses was originally painted with bright colors. The main component of the bottom layer of the paint is raw lacquer, which had curled rapidly and fallen off when unearthed due to its fragility and response to environmental changes. It is extremely difficult to preserve these treasures. The research and development of new materials combined with specific reinforcement technologies have helped these painted clay figures regain their true colors.
