Carbonized silk unearthed from the burial urn of the Wanggou site in Zhengzhou, Henan province

The Wanggou site is a regional center settlement with a large population of Yangshao culture from the Neolithic period. Carbonized textiles were found in a burial urn unearthed from the site. Micro trace detection technology based on the customized polyclonal silk protein antibody was used to analyze the fiber materials of the textiles, which was confirmed to be silk. Combined with related findings at other sites, this proved that Chinese ancestors began to raise silkworms and make silk as early as 5,000 years ago in the Yellow River Basin, and the existence of silk fabrics at that time was quite widespread.
