Bodhisattva double-layer mural

Originally located in the central column of Cave 4 of Tiantishan Grottoes in Wuwei, Gansu province, and now kept in the Tiantishan Grottoes Protection Institute, this bodhisattva double-layered mural and other painted sculptures were relocated in the late 1950s during the construction of Huangyanghe reservoir. The Tiantishan Grottoes, also known as Liangzhou Grottoes, were created in Beiliang period and have a history of more than 1,600 years. The protection and restoration of the murals began in 2015. The double-layered mural is of high historical and artistic value, with the lower layer having been painted with a Bodhisattva from the Beiliang period, and the upper layer painted with a Bodhisattva from the Yuan Dynasty.
