Empress' embroidered yellow silk dragon robe with colorful blessings and a character for "golden Buddha"

Unearthed from the underground palace of Empress Dowager Cixi's mausoleum, this robe is exhibited by the Administration Department of Cultural Relics in Eastern Tombs (the Dongling Mausoleum) of the Qing Dynasty, which isa large-scale and well-preserved royal mausoleum. In 1909, when Empress Dowager Cixi was buried in Dingdong mausoleum, this robe was her outermost clothing. According to the preservation condition and disease characteristics of the robe, the back lining reinforcement was adopted in the process of restoration, that is, a modern fabric similar to the style of the cultural relic was selected as a back lining material. This is now set under the damaged part of the robe and stitched together using a corresponding sowing technique to restore its shape to the greatest extent.
