Carbonized rice found in the Shangshan Site

Shangshan culture is believed to have existed around 11,000 and 8,600 years ago. Named after the Shangshan site in Pujiang County, Jinhua City, Zhejiang province, one of the earliest ancient sites in the Yangtze River Basin, it provides evidence for the origin of rice farming and techniques. Rice remains at the Shangshan site is the earliest evidence of domestication in the world. According to Carbon-14 dating, rice was first domesticated in China about 10,000 years ago. This has enriched the understanding of the origin of agriculture around the world.
