Shanghai Conference Unveils Agenda for Poverty Reduction
The Shanghai Conference held in May 25-27, invited more than 1,200 delegates from over 120 countries and regions to exchange experience in poverty reduction efforts. The meeting also issued a Shanghai Agenda on Poverty Reduction calling for joint efforts.

Poverty Reduction Conference Convenes in Shanghai
A major conference on poverty reduction, sponsored by the World Bank and the Chinese government, opened today with a call for a new commitment from rich and poor countries to cut poverty in half by 2015. Premier Wen Jiabao pledged that China will try to help the small portion of the population that still lives in poverty have access to adequate food and clothing early within the next decade.
Students Fight Against Unauthorized Fees
A group of primary and middle school students in central China's Hubei Province is suing the Qianjiang City education authorities. They claim that they were obliged to purchase non-compulsory materials and pay fees for items and services they never received.

The two Chinese victims in the roof collapse at Paris biggest de Gaulle airport on Sunday morning are identified. The Chinese man who was killed in the accident was named Wu Xin and the other Chinese woman who disappeared named Liu Jianfang.
Top Chinese Legislator Promotes Ties with Russia
Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress, met on Sunday with Irkutsk regional governor Boris Govorin. Following their discussion on regional trade and economic cooperation, Wu traveled to Moscow to continue his seven-day official goodwill visit to Russia.
